Menil Contemporaries members are invited for an evening of cocktails and conversation. Join Paul R. Davis, Curator of Collections, as he discusses the series of large-scale gelatin silver prints from the new exhibition Samuel Fosso: African Spirits.
Each portrait portrays the artist as a different prominent figure from the 20th-century Black liberation movements. These reinterpretations pay homage to the figures and raise questions about individuality, celebrity, the media, and the complicated history of representation.
