Public Program

Outdoor Film Screening: Exquisite Cinema of the Surreal

In conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibition, Photography and the Surreal Imagination, curated by Natalie Dupêcher, Aurora Picture Show and the Menil copresent an outdoor screening of films inspired by Surrealism. Taking a cue from the Surrealist “exquisite corpse” game of chance combinations, an eclectic selection of historic and contemporary short films are presented that explore unusual and playful use of everyday objects, animation, abstraction, and camera trickery. The program includes work by Germaine Dulac, Marcel Duchamp, Lawrence Jordan, Joan Logue, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Allison Schulnik, Virginia Lee Montgomery, and Ilaria Di Carlo, and is curated by Mary Magsamen of Aurora Picture Show.

This program takes place in West Main Green, adjacent to the Menil Drawing Institute. It is free and open to the public. Limited outdoor seating is available, and picnic blankets are encouraged. Further information regarding accessibility and parking can be found here.
