Join Curatorial Assistant Sophie Asakura for a look at the Menil’s holdings of Eastern Orthodox icons. She will share some of the history behind the acquisition of our important collection and the spiritual power of these objects. In particular, Sophie will focus on the icon of Saint Stephen Protomartyr (ca. 1300), while addressing larger questions like what it means to venerate an image and how these objects lived in their communities.
